One of the only advantages of living in the IE besides low housing costs are the occasional art shows held here. The annual "Sea No Evil" show to benefit the Sea Shepard Conservation Society is one of these. Here is a new piece from Amy Sol entitled "The Last Mermaid" You can see more work from the show here. Her imagery is so suited for the cause.

Chet Zar & "Cry For Help" Show.

This piece from Chet Zar that caught my eye. Usually, his stuff is a little dark for me but this piece was pretty cool, no doubt for a endangered species of bats because it's for the "Cry For Help" show at Thinkspace opening January 8th. The show goes to benefit "Born Free USA," a national animal advocacy organization that works toward “ending the suffering of wild animals in captivity, rescuing individual animals in need, protecting wildlife including highly endangered species in their natural habitats, and encouraging compassionate conservation globally.”

Just leaving NY after attending the Audrey Kawasaki show which was awesome (more on that later). But because I was traveling, I missed a pretty cool group show last night at Corey Helford gallery. Artists were given 3 panes of glass (?) which were painted on and overlaid over each other to give a more 3D image like this one seen above by Krista Huot.

On a side note, I was completely unprepared for how cold it is in NY. Left the subway and almost died walking a block to the hotel. My face lost it's feeling. I think it's the wind that does it. Mind you I had on a sweater and a coat. Good thing I brought some thermal underwear with me that I can put on... And, it's not even snowing...

Sorry I have been MIA the past week but I have been in Miami attending the Art Basel fair. My first time there was pretty overwhelming. The sheer amount of art and art events was enormous. Hardly found time to post articles and found myself pretty exhausted at the end of it. Now that my Basel cherry has been popped, already looking forward to next year, perhaps at a more leisurely pace...

Look at this beautiful painting by Natalia Fabia for the "True Self" show at Jonathan LeVine. The model for this piece is one of my art friends so that's pretty cool... The theme of the show was to paint something that that represents his or her true self, so this piece being called "Distracted by Shiny... I Heart Vodka" must mean Natalia likes bling and ETOH haha.
